More Than a Music School
Band Together is not your granddaddy's music school. Founded on the core principles of synergy, teamwork, and self-betterment, our mission is to foster a culture of support, creativity, and confidence through the educational merits of music performance.
As working musicians in the 21st century, we've found the modern state of music education to be sorely lacking in relevance, both professionally and culturally.
With this in mind we've devised simple, yet profound methods for illustrating values relevant to all walks of life; values such as patience, kindness, and resourcefulness. By providing students with a slice of life to call their own, Band Together strives to assist the next generation of musicians in helping make the world a better place one quarter note at a time.
Mission Statement:
Band Together's mission is to foster a culture of support, creativity, and confidence through the educational merits of music performance.
Band & Lesson Programs
Little Band
For ages 6-11, Little Band is the gateway to performing music live on stage! With fundamentals as the primary curriculum, Little Band directors assist in illustrating the most basic elements required to play in a band. Concepts such as teamwork, listening, and problem solving are demonstrated through the process of learning and rehearsing songs. Most importantly, Little Band is a fun, fulfilling way to teach the virtues of responsibility while still maintaining the simple joys of being a kid. Little Band runs Thursdays, 6pm-7:30pm.
Band
For ages 12-18, Band is the flagship program at Band Together. Want to perform an entire album cover to cover, or perform a tribute to your favorite genre of music? Band is the program for you! By stripping away arbitrary values present in modern music education, the Band program replaces musical dogma with legitimate context and a relevant approach which seeks to equip young musicians with the skills necessary to learn and perform music without the intrusion of shortcuts or gimmicky apps. Band students have the opportunity to be considered for our House Band, an advanced program for our most dedicated students, which performs regularly throughout the year, including a full-scale interstate summer tour. Band runs Fridays, 4pm-7pm.
Adult Band
For ages 18+, Adult Band is proof that it’s never too late to hit the scene! Easygoing and welcoming, Adult Band is the perfect place for beginners and advanced players alike. With player-selected setlists, all members get a chance to contribute to the sound of the band — plus, you get to experience playing that song you’ve wanted to play on stage ever since you heard it for the first time blasting from the stereo of your 1989 Trans Am. Adult Band turns the rock star fantasy into a reality, transforming even the most unassuming professional into a green M&M hating diva in no time. Adult Band runs Tuesdays, 7:30-9pm.
Songwriting
For all ages, our 60-minute songwriting class is as much an exploration of songcraft as it is an instructional course on the nuts and bolts of the writing process. By analyzing classic and modern hits, or music influential to the student, the songwriting class seeks to embolden the aspiring songsmith to fearlessly chase down the tune that's been swirling in their imagination for days, weeks, and months. All Songwriting students will have the opportunity to perform their original music at our seasonal concerts, with the option of being backed up by our House Band. Students will also have the opportunity to record their song professionally. Individual and group rates are available.
Lessons
For all ages, our 45-minute private lessons are primarily supplements to our band programs. Instructors help students with the material required for their shows, illustrating holistic musical concepts along the way. For students not enrolled in a band program, the instructor will make it a priority to meet the student where they’re at. Rather than follow a rigid curriculum with arbitrary values, our Lessons program seeks to enrich the student by validating their interests and demonstrating the techniques, mechanics, and music theory present in music they already enjoy.
Listening Club
All Band Together students are invited to our monthly Listening Club sessions. The concept is simple: we pick an album once a month, then we get together and listen to it. All of it. In one sitting. This practice was common in the era of the LP record, lava lamps, and shag carpets. In our current age of streaming the hit single is again the predominant form of music consumption. Listening Club is designed to both honor the artform of the album, as well as hone the often overlooked skill of listening. We also occasionally bust out the ol' television and watch concert films. All sessions are followed by an open discussion in which everyone shares their thoughts, feelings, and reactions to what they just heard. Listening Club runs monthly on Fridays, 7:30-9pm.
FAQs
Who are you?
My name is Dylan DiChiara and I started this business to honor my own standards and values; standards and values which I have found consistently absent from the modern state of music education.
Beginning with in-home lessons in 2011, followed by a nine year stint with School of Rock, I’ve spent all of my adult life exploring the nuances and intangibles associated with music lessons.
Music is, in many ways, similar to running water. Not only does it flow, and refresh, but it makes a fool’s errand of trying to wrap one’s arms around it and call it “mine”. The only effective way to communicate the joys of music is to meet students where they’re at, and to dispense with the notion that there is a “way” which serves everybody.
Our teaching philosophy is to be the more experienced student in the room. We do not bestow information down from on high; rather, we draw from experience to instruct in methods and practices which will allow students to meet goals, build confidence, and apply information with respect to a context which is relevant to their interests.
As a professional musician, teacher, director, and business owner, I see it as my cosmic duty to make this world as melodic, harmonic, and groovy as possible. Band Together is my way of walking that walk.
Which instruments do you offer?
We offer band participation and private lessons for guitar, bass, drum set, vocals, keyboard, and ukulele.
How does billing work?
Band Together bills monthly and accepts all forms of payment including credit card, cash, and check. We do not accept seashells or poker chips. Credit cards are billed on the first of the month, and cash/check payment is due by the first lesson of each month. All billing is based on a 4-week month, with the occasional 5th week included in the monthly tuition. All new enrollees are issued a one-time $50 registration fee to help cover costs associated with credit card processing.
What is your cancellation policy?
Lesson cancellations must be made with 24-hour notice to qualify for a make-up. Cancellations due to illness or unforeseen circumstances will qualify for a make-up so long as they are made before 12pm day of. This policy ensures that we are able to pay our instructors for their time in the event of no-shows or last minute cancellations. We do not offer make-ups for missed group sessions, or for missed 5th week lessons. Make-ups will be held for no longer than 60 days. Band Together does not prorate plans in lieu of make-up lessons.
Why should I join the band?
The big word at Band Together is “Context”. We’re all about context. It’s one thing to know a piece of information; it’s another thing to be able to apply it to a real situation. Many music students are fascinated by their instrument yet eventually lose interest due to the solitary nature of playing alone. Joining the band will allow the student to apply what they’ve learned to an interactive group setting in which they can simultaneously grow, make friends, and discover their own true, inner badass.
Where are you located?
We are located at 55 Rhoades Ave., East Walpole, MA. We enjoy a spacious parking lot which adjoins Bird Park.
